The asymmetric pore structure of 3M™ MicroPES™ Flat Sheet Membrane delivers high-throughput performance across a wide range of applications, thanks to the variety of pore sizes available. The evenly distributed pores form an asymmetrical structure along the thickness of the membrane, resulting in pronounced depth filtration characteristics. 3M™ MicroPES™ Flat Sheet Membrane is used in various applications requiring high retention. It can be processed using standard pleating and welding techniques and is also available in a wide variety of pore sizes to meet the needs of various specific applications. Chemically enhanced backwashing with chemical cleaners, such as hydrochloric acid, citric acid, acetic acid, sodium hydroxide or sodium hypochlorite, does not affect the mechanical stability of the membrane. 3M™ MicroPES™ Flat Sheet Membrane offers proven throughput performance due to its asymmetric pore structure.
The pore structure of 3M™ MacroPES™ Flat Sheet Membranes, combined with their relatively open surface, is responsible for their high filtration performance and low tendency to block. Due to the slightly asymmetrical distribution of the pores, the retention layer is protected within the cross-section, whilst the surface, with its open pore structure, ensures high filtration performance. The material used is characterised by excellent wetting properties due to its polar surface. MacroPES Flat Sheet Membranes possess good thermal welding properties for applications in various industries.
The 3M™ 740 Series filter cartridges are pleated polypropylene microfibre depth filters. They are suitable for filter housings designed to accommodate large filters with an outer diameter of 16.51 cm, a length of 101.6 cm and a 226 O-ring connection. Use the 3M™ Series 740 filter cartridges for highly efficient external-to-internal liquid filtration. In applications with high contaminant removal requirements, our filter cartridges allow higher flow rates than standard 6.35 cm diameter products. This means that significantly fewer filter cartridges are required for a given flow rate. The filter medium used in the 3M Series 740 filter cartridges is based on 3M polypropylene microfibre. Our manufacturing processes enable production to strictly controlled specifications. The result is a filter medium with consistent and predictable particle retention properties. The microfibre medium is radially pleated (a 3M innovation) – this optimises the usable filter area of the cartridges. End caps, outer sleeves and cores made of polypropylene in the 3M Series 740 filter cartridges protect the pleated media and result in a robust filter construction. A double O-ring seal reduces the risk of fluid bypassing the filter. 3M Series 740 filter cartridges are available for particle sizes ranging from 1 µm to 70 µm (with a particle retention efficiency of 99.9%).

The 3M™ CUNO™ CTG-Klean System filter package with MicroKlean™ RT Series filter cartridge forms a closed system comprising a separate pressure vessel and a disposable filter unit, designed to isolate the product being filtered from the housing. With the 3M™ CUNO™ CTG-Klean System filter pack with MicroKlean™ RT Series filter cartridge, you reduce the workload and the user’s exposure to contaminants and cleaning solutions compared to filter changes and cleaning with conventional housings. Advanced depth filtration The advantages of our rigid filter construction are consistent performance and long service life. A consistent filtration result throughout the entire service life of a depth filter depends on how well the filter structure can cope with changing operating conditions – including contaminant load and differential pressure. Flexible structures, such as soft, melt-blown and spun-bonded filters, tend to change their density and porosity under increasing pressure. Rigid structures like ours do not. Compaction of the media can shorten the filter’s service life, as the pores collapse and eventually close completely. Compaction can also cause the filter to release particles that have already been trapped. Solution The 3M™ Micro-Klean™ RT Series captures contaminants and retains them within its rigid filter matrix, even under increasing differential pressure. In addition, the cartridge’s depth filter structure offers significantly higher contaminant holding capacity and flow capacity at a given pressure. Unlike soft melt-blown and spun-bonded filters, which require a support core, our filter cartridge is self-supporting. Its corrugation provides more than twice the surface area compared to non-corrugated cartridges. The increased surface area prevents early clogging of the outer surface by large particles and gels and supports full utilisation of the depth matrix – for a significantly longer filter service life. Result: The longer service life of the filter cartridge results in fewer filter changes, whilst the improved flow characteristics typically mean that fewer filters are required for a given flow rate. Together, these factors can lead to significantly lower filtration costs. Flow optimisation The cartridge unit reduces the effort and time required for filter changes and cleaning, as is common with conventional housings, thereby minimising the user’s exposure to contaminants and cleaning solutions. The fully optimised system, featuring high-performance and long-lasting filters, makes the 3M™ CUNO™ CTG-Klean System filter package with MicroKlean™ RT series filter cartridges the first choice for user-friendly and cost-effective filtration.
Micro-Klean™ RT Series filters are depth filter cartridges made entirely of polypropylene. They offer consistent particle removal rates, increased filter surface area for longer service life, lower pressure drops and significant particle reduction. The long service life of the filters means fewer filter changes are required. This product is suitable for a wide range of applications, including food and beverage production. The filter’s robust construction ensures consistent performance, a longer service life and fewer filter changes. We manufacture the Micro Klean™ RT Series filters using our proprietary rigid extrusion-bonding technology. Our unique manufacturing process combines superior process control with quality assurance, enabled by an ISO 9001-certified quality system, to ensure reliable product performance. This exclusive manufacturing process utilises a high degree of thermal bonding between fibres, without the use of binders, to create a rigid, core-free filter structure with the following properties: Does not release contaminants as differential pressure increases, unlike typical melt-blown filters Allows grooves to be incorporated into the upstream surface without the filter structure tearing or melting, thereby more than doubling the effective surface area Demonstrates an exceptionally low differential pressure for a given filter performance. The core-free filter structure allows for easy disposal by incineration or shredding A continuous filter element of integral length is easy to install and has no joints that could break Consistent filtration throughout the service life of a depth filter depends on how well the filter structure tolerates fluctuations in operating conditions – including contaminant load and differential pressure. Flexible structures, such as melt-blown and filament-wound filters, tend to compress under increased pressure and alter their porosity, whereas rigid structures such as ours do not. Media compression can lead to a short filter service life, as the pores collapse and eventually close. Media compression can also cause the filter to release particles that have already been captured. Our robust Micro Klean RT series filters capture contaminants within their rigid filter matrix and retain them, even as differential pressure rises. Furthermore, the unique depth filter structure of the Micro Klean RT filter series significantly increases dirt-holding capacity and offers greater flow capacity at a given pressure. Unlike soft melt-blown and spun-bonded filters, which require a core support, our Micro Klean RT series filter is self-supporting and grooved to provide more than twice the surface area. The increased surface area prevents premature clogging of the outer surface by large particles and gels and promotes fuller utilisation of the filter’s capacity. The result is a significantly longer service life than that of competitors’ filter cartridges. The extended service life of the Micro Klean RT series filters leads to fewer filter changes, whilst the improved flow characteristics typically reduce the number of filters required to achieve a specific flow rate. These combined features can significantly reduce overall filtration costs.
In today’s electronics manufacturing and chemical processing industries, ever-increasing demands are being placed on filtration efficiency and the purity of the filtrate. Our Betafine™ filter cartridges in the PEG series offer solutions for a wide range of applications. This pleated filter cartridge, made from 100% polypropylene, features absolute filtration, graded porosity and Advanced Pleat Technology (APT), which increases the effective surface area and service life. Betafine filter cartridges in the PEG series effectively reduce contaminating particles whilst maintaining or increasing process yield. These filter cartridges represent a major advance in pleated filter technology and performance, building on our history of innovation in filter design. This pleated filter cartridge, made from 100% polypropylene, features absolute filtration, graded porosity and highly efficient Advanced Pleat Technology (APT), which increases the effective filtration area whilst maintaining standard filter cartridge dimensions. The result is a filter cartridge with consistent performance and a long service life. The ABCs of APT design We have developed our innovative Advanced Pleat Technology (APT) to extend the service life of every Betafine™ filter cartridge in the PEG series. This design maximises the filter’s usable surface area and maintains open flow paths between the media pleats. The design also supports a media structure with multi-stage porosity, resulting in lower pressure drops, longer service life and lower overall filtration costs. These filters are manufactured using our staggered pleat configuration, which, in combination with a novel support material, provides greater open space between the pleats. The staggered pleats with an enlarged open area allow for greater contaminant capture between each pleat at the inner diameter. At the same time, the shorter pleats utilise the open area closer to the outer diameter. The result is a fully utilised surface area that enables a long service life. Applications Electronics manufacturing Water filtration prior to reverse osmosis Electroplating and cleaning baths Complex multi-layer printed circuit board processes Production of fine chemicals Clarification of high-purity chemicals Organic and inorganic chemical intermediates Various acids and bases Solvents and polymer solutions Multi-stage porosity — the key to a longer service life The multi-stage porosity of the media structure in Betafine™ filter cartridges of the PEG series reduces particles sequentially by size — with larger particles passing through the more open, outer media and smaller particles through the denser, inner media. The outer media acts as a pre-filter, whilst the inner media ensures the absolute removal specified by the filter cartridge performance. Our unique design effectively distributes contaminants throughout the depth of the filter media, resulting in high holding capacity with low pressure drop. This gives our filters a longer service life compared to competing filters. Chemical Compatibility The manufacture of fine chemicals requires cost-effective, robust filter cartridges with a long service life. Our durable polypropylene construction offers broad chemical and mechanical compatibility for many demanding process fluid applications. Compatibility is influenced by operating conditions; for critical applications, the filter cartridges should be tested under real-world conditions to ensure the correct selection. We have specifically developed, manufactured and quality-tested the Betafine™ PEG series filter cartridges to meet the requirements of the electronics and fine chemicals industries. The larger surface area of our exclusive APT design, our multi-layer media structure, multi-stage porosity and broad chemical compatibility ensure the effective filtration you need, whilst simultaneously reducing filtration operating costs.
The 3M™ Betapure™ AU Series filter cartridges feature a rigid filter structure that achieves a very long service life in a wide range of applications. They are available in various filter grades with absolute retention rates. The controlled pore size of the filter matrix allows for a clear distinction between filter grades, thereby ensuring precise and consistent filtration. Use the 3M™ Betapure™ AU Series filter cartridge for precise contaminant reduction, consistent filtrate quality and excellent service life in a wide range of applications. Numerous filter grades are available, with particle size-defined separation. This allows you to precisely define the filter properties and optimally tailor the filtration process to your needs in a cost-effective manner. Using state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, Betapure AU Series filter cartridges are given a clean and rigid filter structure, ensuring reproducible and consistent filtration results. The filter matrix consists of long bicomponent fibres, each with an inner core and an outer sheath. Betapure AU Series filters are available in two bicomponent fibre combinations – polypropylene/polyethylene or polyester/copolyester. This ensures maximum compatibility with your process. The 3M Betapure AU Series Z11 and Z13 filters feature a polypropylene or glass paper insert respectively. The manufacture of 3M Betapure AU Series filters involves strict material quality assurance, extensive in-process quality controls and detailed testing and inspection of the end product. This results in a product that has the same filtration properties batch after batch, filter after filter. The two-component fibres of the filter matrix are thermally bonded in a process that utilises the different melting temperatures of the two fibre components. The matrix is heated to a temperature above the melting point of the polyethylene sheath but below that of the polypropylene core. In this process, the fibres are bonded at every point of contact. The resulting fibre structure is so strong that a support core in the filter is not required and fibre washout is also prevented. Applications: Coatings – high-quality paints, film coatings, resins and inks General industry – desalination, coating Electronics – reverse osmosis pre-filtration, suspensions in wafer manufacturing, ceramic slurries, chemical-mechanical polishing, disc cleaning Chemicals/Petrochemicals – process water, reverse osmosis pre-filtration, amines, fine chemicals Advantages of the rigid filter construction Where high demands are placed on filtration quality, absolute retention rates offer you greater product consistency and yield. The rigid filter structure maintains a consistent pore size even under difficult process conditions. Changes caused by pump fluctuations, system shutdowns and restarts, or high differential pressure have, if at all, a minimal effect on product consistency. In depth filtration, even deformable contaminant particles are retained. This means less rework and product waste for you. It is critical for any filtration process that the material to be purified does not bypass the filter. Our solution addresses this with a seal made of closed-cell polyethylene foam to seal the filter cartridge against the matching housing. Lower flow resistance equates to lower filtration costs: a lower pressure drop increases filter service life and product throughput, meaning fewer filters are required for a given flow rate and differential pressure to be overcome. With a filter correctly sized for the application, you reduce the total cost of filtration – including purchase, installation and disposal.
